5 Things I told myself before starting my Business

Feb 10 2015

Last week, I opened my design shop and was truly humbled by the kind and encouraging words you all had for me. Thank you so much, I am so grateful.

But looking back, It wasn’t easy putting my work out there. When I began with the idea of setting up my own design business, there were so many negative voices in my head making excuses and discouraging me from doing it. But slowly, those voices slowed down. These were the things that I told myself repeatedly before taking the leap, and it definitely helped, a lot!

1. You may fail, so what: I think the biggest thing that stood in my way to starting my design business was the fear of failure. Well, being human, this is only too common. But seriously, what is the worse that could happen? I may fail, badly. But that is okay, right? In life, you win some and you lose some. But if you don’t try at all, then you only lose.
2.  It is going to be hard, but don’t give up: Change is the only constant in life, it is essential for our growth. But moving out of our comfort zone is always difficult and comes with a few compromises. I knew I would have to work really hard. But there is some sweet in that pain, and I would never give that up for anything.
3. Work hard, expect less: I’ve always believed in giving my 100% to whatever I do. It may not be THE best, but it is my best. Each one of us in this world work hard to get to what we want because, as they say, there is no shortcut to success. But is there any guarantee that all our efforts will reap good results? Not really. Keeping expectations low will help keep our spirits high always and motivate us to work harder. Do your best and leave the rest!
4. You will learn a lot: Whatever might be the outcome of this new venture, I know I will be learning a lot. There is so much of knowledge out there, and going in with an open mind will help me soak it all up and that is what matters to me – to learn more and keep learning all my life.
5. Go for it, if not now then when: Opening my design business was on my list of things to do for a long long time. And I always had excuses to put it off for later. But then I stopped, because there is no better time than now. I stopped giving all those silly excuses and decided to go for it, ‘cuz really, if not now, then when? and if not you, then who?
If you are putting off working on your dreams, don’t. Pursue it now, who knows it might be the next big thing! I would love to hear your experiences and comments about pursuing your dreams.
Hope you are having a great start to the week!

I feel you it's so hard to start business if people on the internet don't want you to endorse your product so sad. 🙁

  • I'm not much of a risk taker, because most of these things eg. fear of failure, the work involved, discourages me, and I really need to remember these points! 🙂

  • These are the EXACT 5 points I have been telling myself while developing my business. BUT, I have to disagree with point#1. You won't fail. Maybe the business will not be a success but that does not mean you have failed because in beginning your journey you have gained so much knowledge and experience. Whatever you do, it will NEVER be a failure.
