If I were to pick out a single factor as the catalyst for the growth of my blog, I would say Photography in the blink of an eye. Photography has been a huge factor in attracting audience and opportunities in the creative community to my content and business offerings. In the past one year, I’ve seen photography being used in a multitude of ways to spruce up blogs and businesses in the creative industry and I want to share how you can do it too!
Why should you use photography for your content marketing?

- Press releases with a photo and video receive 48% more views than the ones without one
- 60% of the consumers are more likely to consider a business that has an image show up in the local search results
- When it comes to e-commerce, 67% of the customers prefer a product that has a high quality photo. Customers value the quality of the image more than reviews, product-specific description and long-descriptions.

You can tell a story, convey a message and build trust by using photos that speak your style, aesthetic and brand values. In many cases, just one fitting photo can easily replace thousands of words. Beautiful and meaningful photography can be one of the game changing tools for your business if used in the right way. So here are 7 different ways you can use photography to amp up your business:
Blog Post Graphics:
The first and the most obvious way is to use photos for your blog post graphics. In the past few months, Pinterest has brought in a lot of traffic for both my blog and business and I can attribute a major part of this to my blog post graphics. You can use photography in your blog post graphics to attract browsers on visual content marketing platforms like Pinterest and bloglovin’ to your website. Two things to keep in mind here are:
- Use Vertical Images: Make sure to use a vertical / portrait image for the Hero Image of your blog post. This image proportion works particularly well for Pinterest as it attracts the browsers eye in the grid.
- Add Text to your photos: Embed the title of your blog post or any eye-catching information in the photo so it stands out and speaks to someone who is browsing on Pinterest. This also tells the reader what your blog post is about, without having to read the description of the Pin below. This makes a huge difference when your pin pops up in search results or suggested pins where browsers may not look at the Pin description.
A landing page is basically any page where you have an opt-in opportunity – It can be a sales page, a webinar registration page or a simple page with a newsletter opt-in. Leadpages, one of my favorite email marketing tool, recently conducted a split test to find out the impact of a background image on the conversion rate of the page. Guess what? They found that a page with an image in the background converted around 409% times more than a page with a plain background. I absolutely recommend using photography in your landing pages as a background – this definitely helps attract users and adds interest to your page. Make sure to use high resolution images for your landing pages, specifically because they can look blurry on large screens.
A website with gorgeous photography catches my attention instantly! You can use photos that flow cohesively with your brand identity in your website design. You can use them as background images in your parallax sections, thumbnail images for denoting categories, images to showcase your portfolio and overall reflect your workspace. I’ve used photos as category thumbnails in my about page, as a background in the Creative Convex page and added photos that reflect my workspace wherever it was fitting.

Extending your branding to your social media is a great way to increase trust and brand awareness. Use photos that reflect your brand for cover photos on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. You can also use photos to create social media graphics for sharing your content, special announcements and news about your business.
Lastly, you can use photography in your email marketing. Use photos to create banners, headers, call-to-action in the emails you send your audience. Photography also helps to break down long sections of text and make the content more reader-friendly.
