Have I mentioned before? I have a photography prop box at home – I store all the props I use regularly for my blog photography in it. This saves me a lot of time, because each time I need to shoot photos, everything I need is at an arm’s reach and I don’t have to fetch different things from different rooms in the house. Today I want to give you a peek into my prop box, as well as give you ideas about the different props you can probably use for your own blog photos + Bonus: Most of these are free or under $20!
Also if you are wondering, I have created this shopping guide that lists all the amazing places that you can buy these props from, you can download the guide right here!
Stationery and office supplies:
As a child, I loved stationery and now, I still do. I think everybody does! Stationery and office supplies is the easiest way to prettify your photos, isn’t it? You probably already have these things at home, you don’t need to go buy them. The next time you are taking a photo, try adding a few stationery pieces like pens and pencils to fill up some empty space. Here is a list of stationery supplies you can use for your photos:
- Washi Tape
- Colored Pens & pencils
- Pockets notebooks, notepads & planners
- Colored paper
- Paper clips, stapler and binders
Okay this is definitely not under $10 but you already probably have them. So its essentially free 😉 Are you taking a picture of your breakfast for your Instagram – Why not include your earphones in your shot? Or how about including your phone when you are shooting your workspace? These little things personalize your photos and help your audience connect more with you.
- Laptops, tablets, desktops
- Music players
Do you have vintage books stored away in your attic? Or are you subscribed to magazines? Use books or magazines to add interest to your shot. You can use them in the background of your subject or place your subject on a deck of books, the possibilities are many – Get creative!
- Vintage books
It is surprising, but most of my props come from the kitchen! Culinary articles are always so delicate, elegant and pretty. You don’t have to be a food photographer to use them. You can use a mug in your workspace to show your love for coffee or scatter some cute, paper straws in your photo background! These photos always get a hell lotta’ love on Pinterest, just sayin’!
- Mason Jars
- Coffee mugs
- Colored paper straws
- Metallic tumblers or spoons (Copper, bronze and vintage textured)
- Wine glasses
Want to know where exactly you can find and purchase some pretty props for your blog photos? I have got the shopping guide right here for you!
I love browsing the aisles of Ikea and bed, bath and beyond for photography props. I mean why not? They always have such beautiful decor stuff like candles, vases, planters that can spruce up even the most boring photography subject! Plus, you can always use them to decorate your house as well – 2 birds with one stone, yay!

- Potpourri, decorative stones and sand
Beauty & Fashion accessories:
Okay girls, bring out all the beautifully packaged, colorful beauty and fashion supplies you have in your vanity! Some of my favorite Instagrammers use their fashion and beauty pieces in their photos and I love the personality these add to the photos. How about including your purse in your Today’s workspace photo? Or how about adding that pretty scarf in the side with your evening coffee? I love how these items always make the photo interesting and pretty!
- Bags, purses and wallets
- Makeup brushes, nail polish and lip tints
- Bracelets, rings and little accessories
Indoor plants & succulents:
Honestly, I haven’t finished a Pinterest session without coming across an adorable succulent in one of the pins! I myself am guilty of browsing photos of indoor plants and terrariums for hours on Pinterest and Instagram, but man these are so common! For as little as $10-20 you can get a pretty succulent to adorn your workspace. You can also add fresh flowers in your photos to add a graceful and feminine touch to them!
- Cacti & succulents
- Indoor plants
- Hanging planters
- Fresh flowers
Craft and art supplies:
Step into a craft store and you’ll find a ton of stuff you can use in your photos. Craft and art supplies are always so colorful and pretty, they make wonderful props for photos. They can also be purchased for as little as $1- $5 which makes them one of the most affordable options as well.
- Patterned paper, Prints
- Paints and Paint brushes
- Beads, paper glitter
- Calligraphy supplies like nibs & ink
- Ribbons, laces and bakers’ twine
This is everything I use for my photos and they are all pretty cost effective and make beautiful props! I love adding to my collection and often pick up dry flowers, leaves and ferns from the public gardens 🙂 Make sure to download the photography prop shopping guide right here!
