For me new year means starting afresh, giving yourself a chance to begin all over again. This is a great opportunity to take the plunge and do the things we have always wanted to do for our blogs. Of course, we can do this anytime, but the new year comes with its own excitement, inspiration and motivation! Here are a few tips to sort out and plan ahead for your blog in 2015.
Plan content: Chalk out briefly the categories, topics and sub-topics for which you’d like to create content in the coming year. If there is a radically different category of content you want to introduce to your blog, this is a great time to do it. Starting a new series, talking about a topic you always wanted to, trying a new style of writing to represent your ideas, it maybe anything – do it now!
New year, new design: I can’t stress enough the importance of a simple, easy to use, pretty blog design. If you have been putting off redoing your blog design, get down and do it. You could choose from buying pre-made templates, hiring a designer or best of them all, doing it yourself. If you are going down the DIY route, I have some design tips for you here.
Get on a schedule: Blogging regularly isn’t easy and I’ve learnt it the hard way. I find myself just skipping days together of posting when I don’t have a proper schedule to follow. So come up with a schedule that works for you – number of times you want to post per week/month and the exact days. Use a planner or even better, get yourself into using an editorial calendar. Write up posts in advance so you don’t have to worry when life gets in the way, because we all know – it does! Here is a glimpse of my blogging routine.
Stock resources: There is sale on almost everything during December! Stock up on all your blogging resources – notebooks, planners, cardboards, post-its and any other stationery that you may need. If you are looking to invest in some photography equipment, it might be a good idea to ask for it as a part of your christmas gift 😉 . If you are interested in building your own photography kit, here is a post that may be of help.
Update skill set: All of us are constantly looking for ways to improve our skills; whether it is writing better content, taking better photos, creating interesting visuals or reaching out to more people. There are tonnes of tutorials on the web to take advantage of. Also there are many interesting e-books and e-courses to enroll in – Lynda’s video tutorials, A beautiful mess’s class list and Design Love fest’s blogshop are the ones I am personally interested in!
Clean up: Run all the errands before the new year starts so you can get the boring things out of the way and concentrate on more important things. Check and if needed, renew your domain, hosting subscriptions, fix any missing labels, missing/moved links, replace outdated information on your about and contact pages, re-do images etc. Just have a look at your blog with a big, mean magnifying lens and fix all the errors it points out to you.
Get Inspired: Change up the environment you work in to inspire you. Create a work space for your blogging activities, make it fresh and colorful and add in some posters with quotes that motivate you. Have a clear objective of what you want to accomplish in the new year, a detailed plan of action and work towards it.
I hope the next year is great for you. Be content with all that you have achieved with your blog, work hard for more and make all your ambitions come true. Go on, I am sure you can do it!
What are your wishes for your blog in 2015?
