Recently, while working on a branding project, my client asked me if we could incorporate some gold foil texture in her design elements. Although I knew this was totally possible, I hadn't tried it out for myself. Being familiar with Photoshop, I guessed I could do this by creating a clipping mask. And I was right! It took me less than 2 minutes to create the gold effect using the clipping mask in Photoshop and it is super easy - so I had to share it with you! This is the kind of effect we are going to create using this tutorial.

Let's dive right into the tutorial! You will need:
Step 1 : First, let's create a canvas to create the artwork on by going to File > New. Select the name & dimensions for your file and click OK. If your toolbar isn't open, locate it by opening Windows > Tools (select). If your layers panel isn't open, locate it by opening Windows > Layers (select).
Step 2 : Select the text tool from the toolbar and create a new text layer. Type in some placeholder text - I am using GOLD.
Step 3 : Import the gold texture that you downloaded by going to File > Place. Position the gold texture on top of the text that you created in Step 2. Now in the layers panel, make sure to arrange the gold texture layer above the text layer as below.
Step 4 : Now its time to create the clipping mask. In the layers panel, right click on the gold texture layer and select the option Create Clipping mask. Voila, you are done!
